What will be left of your youth ministry in 10 years.. it depends, do you live in Texas?

In 5 to 10 years, you will either be experinecing a graying of your community population to the point that youth ministry will be at record lows, OR you may have the largest population of youth in your community that has ever been seen. Which will it be? That all depends on which state you are in and which cultures you are reaching out to.

Everyone knows about the baby boom, but not everyone knows, that there is a baby boom going on right now. But not in 47 of the 50 states. Over 50% of the population growth under the age of 5 is accounted for by 3 states, Florida, California, and Texas. Add all the other 47 together and the they dont total the growth in those three. Florida and California has a growth rate of retirees too that is not seen in Texas.

Take a few minutes to look at some of the data and listen to Sylvia’s talk. I feel strongly that this is a trend that as a professional youth worker or even volunteer, you need to understand. I know some demoninations in North Texas have already reached out to her to help with thier long range planning.
